ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
As the name implies, these were used in the ceremonial execution of (primarily slaves) individuals in the Congo. This large piece measures 26” overall and has some of the wire wrapping remaining just above the wooden handle. The cutting edge is the top, rounded part of the blade and the individual’s neck was placed in a tree trunk shaped the same way. This is a very well known style to collectors of African edged weapons and this one is an exceptionally well made example in good condition. It has lost all three of the blade spurs and has some pitting to the blade. The age of this piece is estimated at well over 125 years and it is the oldest one of its kind in our collection.
