Both these hand-crafted bamboo spears are over 7’ long which is the proper length for hunting pigs from horseback. They both have detachable, threaded heads for ease of transport. Pig Sticking spears are incredibly rare and matched pairs are almost impossible to find. These appear to have been made in India about a century ago which is around the time Pig Sticking in India was extremely popular. British Army Officers based there between the World Wars became extremely adept at this very dangerous blood sport.

Thicker, stronger male bamboo is the preferred over the smaller diameter female shafts due to the tremendous impact the spears have to absorb. The shafts of these spears were made from male bamboo shafts. The shoots from the bamboo are very sharp and have to be removed or the rider would rip his hands open on them. On these spears, the shoots appear to have been cut off and the channel they grow from has been filled with some type of rather primitive cement based adhesive to make them smooth to the touch. This same type of adhesive has been applied to the open ends of them to round off the portion that your palm might be used to drive the spear home. Parts of the shaft appear to be stained in blood-$4,000/pair
