About this Collection
In the late 1800's, the Zulu used to secure the blades of their spears into the wooden socket with a cowtail that was turned inside out and dried in the sun. They used this until the British started running telegraph wire and then switched over to that in the early 1900's. The palm swell was used to keep the warriors hand from slipping off the shaft when it became covered in blood.
