As a general comment the longer the better and two-toned heads and engraving/other details make these more valulable. Palm swells were used for the same reason they were put on Zulu spears so that warriors could keep a good grip on them during battle. (1) The British used to trade with the Zulu before hostilities erupted in the 1880's. One of their favorite items were angular upholstery tacks that made their knobkerries even more lethal.
